November Series: Make Some Noise for Men’s Health

Men’s Health Deserves More Noise

Men’s health awareness deserves a level of attention that it currently lacks.

I have pondered the whys. Have we become too comfortable expecting women to schedule appointments and remind the men in their lives? Is it fear of what a doctor might find? Embarrassment about the examination? Or being so busy providing for others that personal health keeps falling to the bottom of the list?

These are questions worth asking without blaming men or making women responsible for their care.

Whatever the reasons, we need to make more noise about prostate cancer, with the same energy and consistency we bring to breast cancer awareness.

The urgency is already here.

We might assume prostate cancer receives less attention because it is less common. But U.S. estimates for 2026 project approximately 333,830 new prostate cancer cases, compared with 321,910 new cases of female breast cancer. These are estimated case counts, rather than a direct comparison of incidence rates, but they make one thing clear: prostate cancer carries a substantial burden.

This is an opportunity to expand our advocacy. The visibility built around breast cancer shows what sustained community attention can look like. Men deserve that commitment too.

Prostate cancer often causes no symptoms early on. Feeling well does not replace a conversation about personal risk and whether screening is appropriate.

This November, turn concern into one concrete action:

  • Men: Schedule a health visit and ask, “What is my prostate cancer risk, and should we discuss screening?”
  • Families: Offer encouragement and practical support while respecting his decisions.
  • Community leaders: Make room for men’s health conversations in churches, workplaces, barbershops, and community gatherings.

We do not need to wait for someone we love to receive a diagnosis before we speak.

Providing for others matters. Making time for your own health matters too.

Your November challenge: Put one health appointment on the calendar and encourage another man to do the same.
